About Us
The North Gwinnett High School Orchestra program enrolls over 280 string players in five different levels of orchestra. Located about 30 miles northeast of Atlanta, GA, the North Gwinnett High School Orchestra calls the city of Suwanee, GA home.
The NGHS Orchestra frequently performs in concert, invitational, and performance evaluation settings, including the Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the Georgia Music Educator Association’s In-Service conference, the Capital Orchestra Festival at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and the Kennesaw State University Orchestra Invitational. The North Gwinnett High School Orchestra has also been named a national winner in the Mark of Excellence/ National Orchestra Honors project by the Foundation for Music Education.
The NGHS Orchestra is always well-represented at county, district, state, and national events including the Atlanta Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Emory Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra, The Ludwig Symphony, the NAfME All-National Honor Orchestra, the Governor's Honors Program, GMEA All-State, Gwinnett County Youth Symphony, and the GMEA District 13 Honor Orchestra. Several of our students who have participated in our string quartet program have consistently been accepted to participate in the University of South Carolina’s string quartet workshop and competition with the Grammy Award winning Parker String Quartet, the string quartet in residence at Harvard University.
For the 2024-2025 school year, the North Gwinnett High School Chamber Orchestra has been invited to compete at the American String Teachers Association's National Orchestra Festival.
